Grab a pen and a piece of paper. Right now. Start to think of all the things you want to do in your life. Note them down. This is the start of your bucket list. The concept of a bucket list is simple. It denotes all the things you want to do in your life before you “kick the bucket.” Slightly morbid, I know. But as William Ross said, “Every man dies, but not every man lives.” Don’t let years slide by focusing on the wrong things. Have a little fun now and then. A bucket list is a great way to collect your hopes and aspirations. It also gives you a little inspiration to get these things done rather than them remaining mere ideas and whimsical fantasies. Everyone’s bucket list will vary drastically. But there a few recurring themes that seem to run through most. These tend to be travel, family aspirations, job aspirations, gaining knowledge and sport (to name just a few). So, here are a few tips and tricks to creating your bucket list. Coming up with one should only take around half an hour to an hour initially. But you can constantly add to it.

Questions To Ask Yourself

What would you do if money wasn’t an issue and you had unlimited time on your hands? Bucket lists aren’t meant to be “realistic”. If they were, you’d have a very mundane list. So write down your most out-there wishes. Take time and think. Why can others experience these things? You have just as much chance as anyone else. It may take a little longer to save for it. But nothing is out of the question or out of reach for you.

Is there a particular skill that you’ve always wanted to have? What would it take to gain this skill? Would you have to take classes? Daily practice? Immersion in another place or culture? Note down everything that would be necessary to bring this skill to fruition.

What have you always wanted to see? When we were little, we all had certain things that we were fanatic about. A certain animal. A certain country. A specific football team. Whatever. Whatever it is that you adored when you were young, note it down. Are there any specific places or events associated with it? Is there anything you can do to relive your fanaticism?

How Would You Like Your Personal Life To Be? Do you want to live a party lifestyle, free of responsibility and experiencing the world and experiences with no ties? Do you want children? A partner? Where would you like to be working? Where would you like to live? What kind of house? What kind of decoration? Is there a particular car you’d like to drive? Some of these things are a little harder to achieve, as your personal life can work out unpredictable. You can’t force yourself to fall in love, for example. You also can’t guarantee that you won’t fall for someone along the line. However, note them down anyway.

Travel

For now, we’ll focus on travel. Travel is a top hit when it comes to people’s bucket lists. Why? Because we all want to experience other parts of the world. The travel and tourism industry is booming. With the rising popularity of television and the internet, people know there are some truly beautiful things out there that they want to see in person, rather than from behind a screen. You’ll see your friends visiting landmarks and beautiful landscapes. If they can go, why can’t you? When you start to travel, research where you’re going. Read a travel blog. Read reviews. Know where to find the best and most affordable before you get off the plane. Take photos. Keep your friends updated as you go. Here are a few things to be prepared for when you take to exploring the world.

The Wonders of The World

These are the big sights to see. The famous and infamous spots which are drenched in cultural history and significance. From the Great Wall of China to the Ancient Egyptian pyramids. These are some of the most breathtaking things you could wish to see. However, it is important to remember that with such popularity comes mass interest. When visiting these places, you’re going to be surrounded by other tourists. Sometimes thousands of them. Unless you’re royalty, you’re not going to get a picture of you on your own in front of the Taj Mahal. This shouldn’t put you off. But try not to be disappointed at the mass tourism culture surrounding these places.

Animals

A lot of tours focus on animals that may not be native to your home. Elephants, camels, tigers, dolphins and whales. But remember, these are wild animals. If you’re able to walk up to a tiger and stroke it, chances are it’s heavily sedated. These animals undergo physical torture from when they were first born to create the docile and submissive demeanor that they show. They were not orphans taken from the jungle and saved by compassionate people. There aren’t that many orphan Tigers just roaming about tourist hot spots. If a killer whale is performing tricks in a resort, they’ve been taken from the wild. They are forced to carry out unnatural tricks in a tiny environment just to receive their food. Think twice before engaging in animal tourism. There are plenty of opportunities to come into contact with these animals in their natural environment. There are companies who can take you to dolphins in the sea. You can see lions and other big cats on safari.

Illness

You need to ensure you’ve had the necessary immunizations before you leave for another country. Mosquitos can be lethal. Other animal bites pose a great danger to your health. Unclean water can make you sick. Also remember to take a small first aid kit. You never know when you might need a plaster or bandage. Stock up on rehydration powders and pain killers for when times get rough. Ensure you always have travel insurance too.
