5 Ways to Take Your Own Travel Photos
The idea of travelling alone is daunting. However, many seasoned travellers would still recommend that everyone try it. Why? Because you get to push yourself out of your comfort zone, you learn how to be completely independent and you have a much better chance of finding yourself.
One thing that many solo travellers struggle with, however, is taking photographs. Of course, capturing beautiful vistas and places of interest is easy enough, but how can you document your travels thoroughly (and have plenty of memories to come home with) if you’re not in any of the pictures? Selfies can sometimes look a little forced, and it’s not easy to hold the camera steady and capture a genuine candid moment – click here for some photo wall inspiration.
So, what’s the solution? Read on for 5 simple ways to take your own travel photos.
Ask someone to do it for you
It sounds obvious, however, the trick here is to ensure you’re asking the right person to take your picture. Don’t just grab a passer-by and hope that they don’t run off with your camera or take 20 selfies by mistake. Look around and try to choose someone who looks as though they know what they’re doing. Someone with a decent looking camera, or a tripod, someone who’s taking shot after shot, someone who is taking their time and looks confident behind the lens. Only then do you have a better chance of getting a good photo. Ask them to take your photo and show them how you want them to hold the camera.
Get your hands on a tripod
Tripods aren’t just for those wanting to take great landscape shots, they’re perfect for solo travellers. Believe it or not, they don’t have to be huge either! Most are small enough to fit into your suitcase and have poseable legs so you can wrap them around things, or even place them on uneven surfaces. Make sure you purchase one with a remote, so you can get in front of the camera and not worry about the timer running out. Perfect for creative shots.
Accessories!
From camera watch straps, to head mounts and body harnesses, if you’re hoping to capture some action shots of your paragliding experience or white water rafting etc then I can only recommend that you invest in the tools needed to capture these priceless moments. You’ll be so glad you did.
Drones
Don’t be fooled into thinking that drones are only for commercial use. You’ll find plenty of amateur photographers are already enjoying the unique and breathtaking perspective that a drone can bring into your photos and videos. From spectacular footage over sandy white beaches and blue waters to birds-eye views of local villages and rainforests, you’d be amazed at how this wonderful perspective can change your travel photos. Just make sure that you’re aware of any laws that prevent you from flying in certain areas, conduct a little research before you start to fly!
