People Think About Vacation 156 Times Each Year

Work, family life and bad weather are the top three contending factors that make Britons want to get away from it all. New research published by an online travel agency reveals fascinating information about Britons sentiments towards travel. It states that the average Briton mentions something about travel 156 times per year!

The team at www.sunshine.co.uk asked 2,117 persons aged 18 or more from all over the UK to help answer questions regarding their travel experiences. The research was conducted as part of an ongoing study revealing the attitudes about leaving home for vacation.

The first question asked of the participants was, “how often do you feel the need to travel?” The average answer being “3 times per week.” If followed through, this would mean people would travel a total of 156 times per year! 78% of the subjects answered that they are openly speaking about this with their friends and family.

As a part of the study, the subjects were asked what the main reasons were that motivates them to want to travel and take holidays. Each participant could select more than one answer. The top 10 responses for what most commonly made them feel the need to take a trip were the following:

  1. Work/Job – 49%
  2. Family life – 38%
  3. Bad weather – 35%
  4. Relationship issues – 29%
  5. Social media envy – 27%
  6. Poor health – 22%
  7. Wanting to get a tan – 19%
  8. Boredom – 17%
  9. Desire to travel/see places – 14%
  10. Want to meet someone – 12%

Apparently holidays are necessary, as more than half of the people stated that during a vacation they are already planning for the next trip.

Managing Director, Chris Clarkson of www.sunshine.co.uk , said that “It’s all too easy to start feeling as though you’re in dire need of a holiday, especially when the stresses and strains of everyday life start to wear you down. To see that we think this more than 150 times a year is incredible, though! It’s important to try and take a break at least once a year, even if you can’t stretch to going very far. Taking time out is key to avoiding burnout!”

Clearly, taking time away from work, everyday routines and escaping bad weather is great to rejuvenate the body and mind.
