Are you planning to move to a new country? If so, this can be a stressful time with a lot of tasks to organize. Getting prepared in advance can seriously cut down on the amount of stress that you feel in the run up to the move.

These are our essential ‘must do’s’ before you emigrate.

Create a Checklist

Things are going to become hectic in the run up to the move and the things you plan to do can get left behind. Write a time sensitive list, with tasks from now until just before the move. Naturally, there will be things that you can’t do too far in advance, like storing furniture that you use, so write a list while you’re not in the most hectic time and add to it when new tasks occur to you.

Get Inspired

With all of the drudgery of getting ready for the move, you can lose sight of why you’re actually doing it. Inspire yourself and those that are moving with you to actually get excited about the process.

This is really important if you have kids, as you’ll want to make sure they see the move as an opportunity instead of a disadvantage. Take time to research things in your new home that you can spend time doing, like going to zoos, parks or shopping malls.

Arrange Extra Help

If you’re moving overseas or just need extra help moving your entire home, then book this in advance. For example, if you’re moving to South Africa from the UK, then you’ll need to arrange shipping and packing. If you were emigrating to South Africa then you could also look for movers that will help you prepare the home in advance, as you won’t be able to get out there prior to the big day.

Pack a Care Package

When you move to a new country, you might miss your creature comforts from home. This could be certain foods or goods that you can’t get in your new country. Pack a small care package in advance that will easily fit in with your travel plans to get you through the first short while in your new country. During this time, you’ll have your old brands with you while you discover new ones, soon you might not miss them at all.

Sell what you don’t Need

If you’ve got lots of clutter and items that you don’t really need, then sell them. There’s no point paying for them to be transported to your new home if you don’t use them anyway. You could have a car boot sale or list these items online to get rid of them. This can even help you start a fund for new furniture and items in your new country.

Follow these steps if you want to make your emigration much less stressful. It’s all about being prepared to make sure that you’ve got it all handled before the big day. Then you can just enjoy your new life in your new home.
