No Time to Travel? Short Breaks are Your Friend

People seem to be working more these days, which is strange as I always pictured by this time we’d all be winding down and letting the machines take over, so we could … you know …. enjoy life. But no, apparently we’re doomed to work our lives away like little ants in a nest. One of the biggest pleasures in life is travelling far and wide and seeing a world we don’t usually get to see, but what with people working all the daylight hours of the week, there isn’t enough time to do these things. No one has time for two weeks in Cambodia anymore. My solution is short breaks. They are quick little snapshots of another world that don’t cost the earth and you can also take escorted holidays which mean that you’ll be able to cram in everything that there is to see in one long weekend. Perfect.

This list of ideal short breaks is location specific, as someone in Scotland can’t simply pop over to Australia for the weekend as you’ll spend two days travelling as it is. So, I’m going to be reaching out to the discerning European traveler (and maybe the East Coast Americans) for the purpose of this article, but anyone could get some good travel ideas from the article, I’m sure.

New York

The furthest on the list, but can be flown to in about 5 hours if you live in Britain, so not too far and makes a great short break if you left on a Thursday and came back on a Monday or Tuesday. This is the city that is home to a thousand movies and has more character than it knows what to do with. Definitely consider getting a guide for your visit as there’s so much to do that it would take a month to see it all.

London

Maybe the most famous city in all of Europe (although Paris might disagree) and one of the most culturally exciting places in the world. London is the epicentre of multiculturalism on this planet and so you can experience the whole world in one city. Whether you want to immerse yourself in the tourism stuff or explore the lesser known London, the place will open up to you like an English Rose.

The French Riviera

The south-east coastline of France is home to one of the most beautiful collections of beaches I’ve ever seen. It is a melting pot of celebrities and extravagance and if you can afford it, is well worth a visit. Staying here will make you feel like a royalty … and that is how the hotel staff will treat you.

Lake Garda

I could have picked any lake in Italy for the purpose of this article, but I went for Garda, the biggest of them all. I’m not sure I’m going to attempt to describe the sheer beauty of the place in this article, as I honestly don’t think I have the skill as a writer to put it into words. Just promise me that this is the one place after reading this list that you will go and book a short break at.
