Step out from the windowless casinos with their flashing slot machines, where you can spin the roulette wheel with no concept of time, and you are confronted with bright lights as you walk down the strip from the famous neon Welcome sign to the erupting volcano at the Mirage.

But, there is more to Vegas than gambling, so don’t let the bright lights fool you into thinking you can’t relax and unwind while you are here.

While planning you trip to Sin City, make sure you put some time aside to escape the crowds and noise:

Choose your hotel carefully: you could stay at a busy casino hotel but why not check into a non-gaming environment. You can still stay in the heart of the strip and visit the casinos, but with the option to escape to the calm and quiet of your hotel room afterwards. The Mandarin Oriental is the perfect tranquil retreat with views across both the city and desert.

Chill out by the pool: you will find a pool at nearly every Las Vegas hotel and with temperatures soaring during the day, spending a few hours here will enable you to relax and cool down. As well as three large pools and 2,700 tons of white sand, Mandalay Bay also boasts a lazy river to set yourself down beside. Alternatively, how about heading to pool at the Golden Nugget, where you can ride a water slide right through a 200,000-gallon tank filled with sharks.

Ride on a gondola at the Venetian: glide down the Grand Canal in an authentic Venetian gondola complete with a singing gondolier. You will go under bridges, alongside replica architectural structures and through Venetian streets. The perfect escape – so much so you might just forget you aren’t actually in Venice.

Watch the Bellagio fountains: take a moment away from the madness to be mesmerised by the fountains at the Bellagio hotel. Head to the Eiffel Tower restaurant opposite for a bite to eat and if you are lucky enough to get a window seat you will be able to watch this spectacular display away from the crowds.

Take in the views from a helicopter: the Las Vegas skyline is breathtaking and what better way to see it than from above. Escape the hustle and bustle and soar high above the crowds in a helicopter tour. You may also want to head out to the Grand Canyon and see this from the skies too.

Take time out in the spa: there is no better way to relax and de-stress than in a spa. The Spa at Aria offers stress-relieving treatments with calming music and soft lighting or head to Drift Spa at Palms Place, located just off the Strip – it will be a peaceful moment away from the action.

The Flamingo Wildlife Habitat: take a stroll round the Wildlife Habitat at The Flamingo where you will find a tropical oasis with exotic wildlife including, of course, the colourful flock of Chilean flamingos.

The Bellagio conservatory and botanical gardens: don’t just focus on the fountains, head into the Bellagio too and you will find a display of thousands of plants and flowers which change with the seasons. The 14,000 square foot garden is the perfect place for a moment of calm. Likewise, in The Wynn atrium you will find impressive designs created entirely from bright, colourful flowers, while The Mirage atrium is also home to a small indoor rainforest complete with exotic plants, palm trees and waterfalls.

Vegas is definitely an experience worth ticking off your bucket list – but just make sure you remember to take time to relax and re-energize.
