Allergy attacks can result in utter misery for the victim, with streaming eyes, a blocked nose, itchy throat and rashes being just some of the irritating symptoms. These are bad enough when they happen at home in our daily lives, so when they happen abroad, it can be extremely frustrating.

When we are at home, we often know where the triggers lie and can either take the right medication (from somewhere like Click Pharmacy) to cure the symptoms or avoid them completely, so we do not get the attack in the first place.

Have a look for these 5 ways you could get an allergy attack when travelling abroad and hopefully you can sidestep them meaning your holiday will not be afflicted:

1. Unknown food

Food labelling in the UK is much better than many places in the world, so if it’s a food item you struggle with, how do you know if it’s in what you are eating? You can always ask whoever is making the food and tell them your issue. You could also choose the food you know should not include your particular allergen. If in doubt, avoid the suspect at all costs.

2. Dust mites

The cleanliness of hotels is sometimes not easy to tell as while superficially it might look clean, the pillows or bedding might not be very new. You could try to spend your time in more modern hotels or even in Airbnb places with exceptional cleanliness ratings in the hope that these will have a lower turnover of guests to cause the dust.

3. Plant allergies

Hay fever and other vegetation-based allergy triggers might be easy to spot at home, but tropical plants may cause you issues you did not know you had. If you are sensitive, try to avoid getting too close despite how tempting it might be to sniff the beautiful blooms regardless of how tempting it might be.

4. Plane air

This one is difficult to avoid! The air on a plane is recycled and repumped around so if there are allergens present; you are likely to be affected. Make sure you have stocked up on your preferred antihistamine from Click Pharmacy before you go to calm your symptoms if they were to flare-up. They will also be able to give you any advice you might need before you travel.

5. Animal-friendly

We in the UK are becoming increasingly dog-friendly, but this has been the case in many countries for years. If you are allergic to pets, then the likelihood is having animals roaming about your resort or the town you visit could trigger reactions in you which are not welcome when you’re away. Your stash of anti-allergy tablets will help fix any issues though!

Travelling with any medical condition, including allergies can be a little bit of a challenge for elders and even for children while travelling abroad to stay healthy, but with the right planning and avoiding specific scenarios it can be achieved. Fortunately, there is a lot of advice and many products available to help facilitate this to ensure you get the most out of your trip.
