Namibia is one of Africa’s most fascinating countries, and for this reason it is well worth the visit. It is substantially different from its neighbors, as it is made up predominantly of desert, known as the Namib desert. Namibia certainly is a special place, a place that every adventure traveler, nature lover and thrill seeker should visit in their lifetime.

Hike the Sossusvlei Dunes
Without a doubt, this is a must do activity! While Namibia is home to many quaint towns and villages – all of which offer unique encounters and experiences, there is nothing like being swallowed up by nothingness in the great Namib desert. There aren’t many places in the world that offer visitors the gift of silence, stillness and the incredible feeling of being the only person on earth – which is how you are bound to feel in Sossusvlei. We’d recommend you make the most of your Sossusvlei adventure by hiking up ‘Big Daddy’, one of Sossusvlei’s tallest dunes. This is the favorite as it is not difficult to climb, and arguably offers the best views in the park – the view of Deadvlei. Deadvlei is one of the most photographed locations in Africa. With its dry marsh area scattered with dead tree trunks, it looks like a work of art.
Take a trip to the Skeleton Coast
The Skeleton Coast is unlike any other place on earth. Just imagine kilometers of desert, abruptly cut short by the vast Atlantic Ocean. It is a sight to behold as two contrasting worlds collide. While you can take a road trip to the Skeleton Coast, visitors are also able to take a short flight, which, of course, offers unparalleled views. Most, however, prefer to go by car as you are able to fully take in the surroundings and feel the energy of the barren landscape. The Skeleton Coast also comes with some fascinating stories. It got its name from the passing ships that would often run aground in the area, due to the unpredictable weather. Due to the harsh environment, sailors would end up losing their lives on the shores – with their remains only being found months later – hence the name ‘Skeleton’ Coast.
Spend time in Swakopmund
Swakopmund is Namibia’s favorite seaside city. While it can be busy, it can also be relaxing. There is a lot to do and see, and a lot of interesting people to meet – Swakopmund is known to be home to many artists, writers and painters. The slow pace of life is invigorating, and will leave you feeling rejuvenated; but, if you’re looking for thrill and adventure while you stay in Swakopmund, you’ll find this easily too! Think various exhilarating water sports, skydiving, and 4×4 excursions in the desert sands not too far outside of the city bowl. There are many beautiful markets, museums, art galleries and restaurants to visit, and of course, a day spent on the beach should not be passed up!
Take a Hot Air Balloon Ride
There really is nothing as romantic as a hot air balloon ride – especially over landscapes so unique and unusual. However, even if you decide to go alone, or with a friend, it is spectacular all the same. This activity will mark a distinct before and after in your African adventure as it is thrilling, but soothing at the same time, and gives you a whole new perspective of Namibia. It is also an activity not often found in many corners of the globe, so to be able to say you took a hot air balloon ride, is rather interesting. It will not only make for an incredible story, but you’re sure to get some epic photos too!
Visit Etosha National Park
You cannot visit Africa and not go on a wildlife safari. Luckily, Namibia is incredibly diverse, and travelers are able to enjoy authentic African experiences such as this. Etosha National Park is immersed in wildlife and is known for its abundance of Cheetah. Cheetahs are rare species, and even other parts of Africa known for their wildlife, have low populations of cheetah. However, travelers get more than they bargained for in Namibia, as you are sure to spot them, and the likes of the big 5, in Etosha National Park.
