Are you an adrenaline junkie with a thirst for adventure? Do you like going fast, taking risks and living on the edge? Some people are content with a comfortable life and get their thrills from watching Game of Thrones while others get a kick out of spreadsheets and formulas. But not you – no, you’re most activated when you’re skydiving, rock climbing or mountain bike riding. So if you’re a wheel warrior and you’re looking for that next great trail, you’re in luck because we’re about to reveal some of the best paths to explore in Australia.

The Best Trails in Victoria

We’ll start with the best mountain bike trails in Victoria. Right up until the top of the list are the trails in Arthur’s Seat. These aren’t for beginners though, so if you’re new to the scene, you may benefit from a more accessible trail. Some of the trails in Arthur’s Seat see Red Bull Academy riders taking to them so seriously consider if they’re right for you before embarking on this adventure

For beginners try out the East Side River Trail in Hurstbridge, in Melbourne’s northeast area. A beautiful, green-fringed trail for green riders this is a great place to start your mountain biking journey.

Moving Across the Country to South Australia

Let’s head west from Victoria now and check out South Australia. This beautiful state is lovely to visit, and mountain bikers are spoiled for choice here. One that is close to Adelaide, just a few kilometres north, is the Dry Creek Trail. This trail follows a creek, and you’ll see lots of wildlife and is a great easy trail.

Heading a few hours out of Adelaide is the town of Melrose, which is becoming increasingly popular in the scene for its single track trails.

Heading North to Queensland

Queensland is a lush state full of rainforests, gorgeous parks and beautiful beaches. It’s also a hot location for mountain biking too. In the Gold Coast, The Nerang National Park and State Forest has some shared and single trails featuring creek crossings – you’ll see plenty of wildlife on these trails as well which is a bonus.

Brisbane is a beautiful city and just outside its borders are some excellent mountain bike trails. The Bunyaville Conservation Park has a variety of trails to suit all levels of skill – from beginners through to advanced.

Heading a little bit south in Queensland to near the Sunshine Coast there is Tewantin National Park. An extinct volcano towers over this park, making a stunning backdrop to its mountain bike trails.

Another southern gem in this state is the Parklands Conservation Park, which also features trails suited for all levels of experience.

Western Australia Offers Stunning Scenery

The great western state is a sight to behold, whether you’re a mountain biker or not. Boasting over 750 trails you’re spoiled for choice. In Perth, there are the Byford trails which are perfect for entry-level riders. Also near the city is Forsyth Mill, which has some excellent cross country trails across a range of different difficulty levels.

A Cross Country Conclusion

Australia is the land of choice when it comes to mountain bike trails. We’ve only covered four states in this blog, but each state has a wealth of tracks to explore. You can find trails close to cities or in the middle of the bush. Remember always to wear a helmet and other protective gear and if you’re going solo make sure to let someone know where you will be and what time you’re due back and let them know once you return!
