Think You Know NYC? Think Again
Millions of people flock to New York City every year. It is one of the main attractions of the United States, and rightly so! There is just so much different stuff to do, from going up the Empire State to take a trip out to Ellis Island. But there is a lot more to NYC than just these popular tourist attractions. Want to do something unique in the city? Read on for some sightseeing tips.
Katz Diner
Once you are all done with seeing NYC and its main sights, head for a break at Katz Diner. Located in the lower east side of the city, this famous diner serves up some seriously tasty pastrami sandwiches. But it’s not just the food that attracts people through its doors. A lot of Hollywood movies have also been shot here. Two of the most famous are When Harry Met Sally and Donnie Brasco.
City Hall Station
Once you’ve had your fill of deli meats, it’s time to head underground to City Hall Station. This abandoned subway station dates back to the early 1900s. Some trains still stop here, but passengers are not allowed to disembark. To experience the station in all its glory, take one of the guided tours. They are the best way to explore the station’s beautiful hallways.
Roosevelt Island
This small island is technically part of Manhattan, but it is often forgotten by many tourists. However, it still has some fantastic sights. One of the main ones is the ruins of the old smallpox hospital. This once large building is said to have inspired Charles Dickens to write some of his novels. On your way back to the mainland, take a trip on the tram for fantastic views of the river.
MoMath
The National Museum of Mathematics isn’t quite as boring as you may think! There are lots of interactive exhibits that will keep the kids entertained. And adults will love the museum’s fascinating facts and puzzles. The museum puts everything into simple terms, so even visitors who aren’t too good with numbers can grasp some of its complex formulae and sums. You’ll be amazed at how fun the museum makes mathematics – plus, you may even improve your skills with a Rubix Cube!
Tannen’s Magic Store
Have you ever wanted to make it into the Magic Circle? If so, head to Tannen’s Magic Store and you will find all the equipment you need to make your very own tricks! This is New York City’s oldest magic store and has been supplying magicians since 1925. If you want to improve your magic skills, the store also offers classes. You’ll soon be able to give Harry Potter a run for his money!
