We’re in the heart of summer and, with the schools shutting their doors for six weeks soon, now is a perfect time to look at upcoming cheap holiday deals and heading for hotter climes for a week or two.

For many, a short haul break is all that is needed to help recharge the batteries and escape daily life for a while. Spain is incredibly popular with the British tourist and, with miles upon miles of golden sands and blue flag beaches, it’s no wonder we flock to its shores every year. Where you head depends largely on what you want to gain from your Spanish escape – the mainland is dotted with Costa regions, so understanding the difference will help to cement your choice.

Costa Almeria

Located in the south east corner of Spain, the Costa Almeria boasts 200km of coastline which is home to quaint Spanish villages that have been virtually untouched by tourism. The cosmopolitan namesake city, Almeria, is slowly appealing to tourists but on the whole, this Costa offers holidaymakers a little more authenticity than others.

Costa Blanca

Literally translating to the ‘white coast’, the Costa Blanca is home to some exquisite beaches, including 37 Blue Flag areas. Home to a diverse range of resorts, including the British haven of Benidorm, Costa Blanca is versatile, lively and most of all, fun.

Costa de la Luz

One of the best kept secrets, the area is up and coming but hasn’t broken through into mainstream tourism just yet, meaning that you can enjoy tranquillity and your own piece of Iberian paradise here.

Costa Dorada

Perfect for all the family, the ‘golden cost’ is home to the hugely popular PortAventura, which will satisfy the thrillseekers in your group – or enjoy a daytrip to Barcelona, just a short distance away.

Whether it is one of these Costas that appeal or you choose to head for one of the others available, short haul breaks to Spain will always provide a fun-filled, relaxing break for all the family.
