3 UK Sports Destinations to Add to Your Travel Bucket List

If you are a sports fan, whether you live in the UK or not, you’ll know it is home to some of the biggest venues in sport. Whatever your passion in sporting terms, you can find some amazing places to see world class events in the UK, and the biggest and best sports venues are ones with a huge amount of history and heritage to inspire even those who are not fanatical about the sport in question.

Here are just three of the most famous and inspiring sports destinations in the UK – all of which make a worthy addition to any travel bucket list!

Wembley Stadium

Wembley Stadium in London is perhaps best known as the home of the England National football team, and as the stage for major domestic football matches like the annual FA Cup Final. Finals for cups in more minor leagues are also held here, as are some women’s football matches. Wembley is not just about football, however, and is also used for other major sporting events. As you may or may not be aware, the American Football NFL now plays at least one game a year in England, and Wembley therefore gets to host some of the biggest NFL stars in the world.

Whether you visit Wembley to actually take in the amazing atmosphere at one of its events, to see a concert, or just to get a tour of the iconic stadium, it is a place any sports fan should see at least once in their lives!

Silverstone

For motor racing fans, Silverstone is the track to see in the UK. Whether you like cars or bikes, this historical circuit is in beautiful surrounding, and for major events becomes almost like a festival site, with plenty of great things to see and do and sometimes even things like displays by the Red Arrows.

Many people actually camp onsite when they go to a race weekend or day at Silverstone, to really soak up the atmosphere as well as being able to bring their own bike or car for other fans to admire. However if that isn’t for you, you can also find great hotels in nearby towns like Milton Keynes IHG.

Lord’s

Lord’s cricket ground in St John’s Wood, London, is the natural home of that most English of pastimes – cricket. Whether you love cricket or – like many people in non-cricket playing countries just want to see what it is all about, a sunny day spent here watching a game is a great experience. As well as being home to Middlesex cricket club, a lot of international matches are played here, and you can also enjoy the museum at Lord’s that has lots of great cricket memorabilia and some iconic trophies.

England is a country that really loves sport, and as a result its main sporting venues are considered to be truly special places. Make your travel to do list a little longer by adding some of these wonderful places.
