Top Five Florida Holiday Experiences
Florida is one of the world’s most popular destinations, and for good reason – there’s simply so much to do, whether you’re travelling as a couple, a family of four or a group of mates.
For more information on booking Florida holidays, this website is the place to go, or for a guide to the top five Sunshine State experiences, read on:
1. Theme parks
Visiting a theme park is an absolute must of any Florida visit, especially as there’s a location to suit everyone. From the family friendly fun of Orlando’s Disney World to the high speed thrills of Tampa’s Busch Gardens, Florida’s theme parks will put a smile on your face for the rest of your trip – especially if you visit a different one each day.
Park hopping is a very popular way to spend a week in Florida, simply because no two parks are the same. Go on the set of a film at Universal Studios, get wet at Blizzard Beach, meet Mickey Mouse at Disney, get your heart pumping on the rides at Busch Gardens and leave yourself in awe of the marine life at Sea World – the choices are endless.
2. Gulf Coast
If all that theme park action leaves you a little breathless, you should head over to the Gulf Coast to soak up the sunshine on some of the USA’s finest strips of sand. Powder white and fronted by warm, blue water, the coastline on the western seaboard is simply magical.
To emphasise the point, Florida’s coastline regularly features in expert Dr Beach’s top ten – Barefoot Beach in Bonita Springs made number six this year.
3. The Everglades
Another one of Florida’s natural attractions is the Everglades in the south of the state. This vast area of tropical wetlands is one of the USA’s most intriguing ecosystems and is home to some terrifying reptiles, which you can spot from the safety of a thrilling airboat.
Airboats, which are powered by fans sticking up behind the driver, are needed here because propeller boats would get fouled in all the long grass and shallow water.
4. Cape Canaveral
There are not many holiday destinations from where you have a chance to watch a space rocket blasting off, but Florida is one of them. NASA publishes a list of launch dates online, so try to coincide your visit with one and enjoy the exciting moment of blast off at Cape Canaveral (from a safe distance, of course, unlike the now famous frog who got in the way of the 2013 LADEE space launch).
5. Florida Keys
Worth going for the drive out there along the spectacular Overseas Highway – which is suspended up to 65ft above the sea – alone, the Florida Keys enjoy a truly spectacular location in the middle of the channel between the USA and Cuba.
For a real adventure, catch a boat ride out to the Dry Tortugas National Park, at the very farthest tip of the chain, where you’ll find some of the best snorkelling to be had anywhere – oh, and the largest masonry building in the Western Hemisphere (Fort Jefferson) which was never completed.
Add to these five the city of Miami and you really are spoilt for choice on a Florida holiday.
